Got a website – now what?

Many companies, in our experience, believe that just having a cool website is enough to ‘be online’. Sure that may be the case sometimes, however, the majority of us need to work to actually get people to visit the website. How are people going to find you? Which digital marketing strategy would you take? SEO, Google Ads, Content Marketing, Social Media? The list goes on. But one thing is for sure, having a website with no digital strategy is like winking at a girl in the dark, you know what you are doing but no one else does! As with all things in life, this Venn diagram perfectly illustrates the dilemma we have seen arise time and time again.

In other words, good results will often cost you your own valuable time or money.

So you have 2 options – The not-so-easy way is to start learning the ropes yourself. Sure, you will cut your costs, but as online marketers we love to remind non-marketers that this is not something you can learn in a week, month or even a year!

So on to option 2 – The easy way is to take on a qualified and passionate marketing team to help you with promoting your site through the various channels on the internet. This includes search engines, blogging activities, graphic design, video editing, banner ads on relevant websites, link sharing, pay per click advertising, Twitter, Facebook and more.

What can you do?

In any case there are some things that require a minimal effort and limited expertise on your part. You can save loads in ‘set up’, ‘insertion’ and ‘registration’ fees that most agencies will charge significant fees for. Okay, it’s true that some marketing agencies actually do put in little extra work that makes it all come together, in a real awesome way, but in these cases they will be able to provide proof of their plans and work.

So, here’s what you can do – ’Registering your brand online’ and ‘submission to search engines’ are two of the most notorious charges “because we can” you will see on your invoice. What sucks about this? It takes a total of 20 minutes to do them and they are free. Here’s what you can do…

Register your brand

Get your online business on to these sites:

www.twitter.com

www.facebook.com

www.linkedin.com

www.wordpress.com

www.youtube.com

www.blogger.com

Additional industry specific networking sites

Step 1 – Register an account on your business name, using business emails and contact addresses

Step 2 – Done!

Submission to search engines

Step 1 – Go to these pages:

http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx

http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/?continue=/addurl

Step 2 – Enter your site URL

Step 3 – Fill in the captcha code (the squiggly letters) where needed

Step 4 – Press the ‘submit URL’ button

Step 5 – Done!

As you can see – there’s literally nothing complicated about taking these steps. However, its important for you to know, the only thing you’ve done is made sure that nobody registers an account with your name on significant sites. Then, sometime in the next 2 weeks a web-spider will visit your website. But don’t get down about it, this is the start of a beautiful (love-hate) relationship with the Internet!
